Mission Statement

At Provident Homesteading, we equip families to live wisely, faithfully, and self-reliantly under God’s provision. Rooted in timeless truths of scriptures and the practical wisdom of the Proverbs 31 woman, we share simple recipes that stretch every dollar, biblical financial principles that build lasting security, emergency-readiness strategies that bring peace in uncertainty, and personal testimonies of Jesus Christ’s transforming grace.

Our mission is to inspire a return to biblical provident living – storing up treasures in heaven while stewarding the earth’s abundance today – so that every home becomes a sanctuary of faith, frugality, and readiness for whatever tomorrow brings.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:19

Hi, I’m Siska DeYoung, mom and follower of Jesus Christ, learning every day what it means to live providently in a world that often feels anything but secure.

Over two decades ago, my children’s and my lives were turned upside down. I previously had over 2 years of food storage at home, a garden, chickens, a good amount of land, and hope for our future. Long story short, we became homeless. I had no job prospects or income, and was at a loss as to what to do. In that season, God met us through His Word, the generosity of His people, and the practical lessons of self-reliance. Matthew 6:33 became my guide and way to Provident Homesteading.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” ~ Matthew 6:33

Today, I work a full-time remote job that has blessed me and my kids in more ways than one. We have food storage at home, our garden provides plenty of fruits and vegetables, and our hearts are anchored in the Gospel. I’m not an expert with a homestead empire – just a woman who’s walked through the fire and found Christ faithful on the other side.

Here at Provident Homesteading, I share what we’ve learned (and are still learning):

  • Recipes that turn pantry staples into feasts
  • Financial habits rooted in biblical stewardship
  • Emergency plans that honor God’s call to wisdom
  • Testimonies of how Jesus redeems even our messes

Whether you’re storing your first #10 can of wheat or teaching your kids to tithe from their lemonade stand, you’re welcome here. Let’s build homes that reflect His provision, His peace, and His purpose – together.

“She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar… She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idlesness.” ~ Proverbs 31:14, 27
